The More Things Change

While Steve Knar freed up his Monday nights by resigning as Vice-President of the School Board to accept an appointment to the Village Board, Devin Bright is now booked one Monday per month. Bright was appointed to fill Knar's seat on the Board until the next election.

A bit of confusion erupted later in the meeting when it came time to elect a new Vice-President from among the Board. Tom Mollet, Susan McGarrigle, and Gerry Blohm were nominated, and voting was underway on Susan (Tom had already been voted on and not elected) when it occurred to the Board members that they didn't know what procedures to follow for this election when there were multiple candidates. During the vote, a discussion arose as to whether or not a Board member could vote "Yes" on multiple candidates and whether the Board President had a vote or just a tie-breaker vote. When it was discovered that Bright had already voted "Yes" on both Tom and Susan, the Board took a "mulligan" and re-did the nomination process. This time Susan and Gerry were nominated.

To the observer, it was clear that none of the candidates could be considered to be campaigning for the job. Quite the opposite -- each candidate was actively promoting the others, and Tom looked relieved to not be nominated a second time.

After the rules of the vote were agreed upon, Gerry was elected Vice-President on a 5-1 vote, with Kris Germain voting for Susan McGarrigle, and Gerry abstaining. The vote on Susan was 2-4, with Gerry and Kris voting for Susan, and Susan abstaining.

New Post!!!!

I know, it's been a while. My apologies... it's been crazy busy with me. Still, I have found time to get to school board meetings, even though I haven't found much time to write about them. So why now? Well, I promised. And for whatever failings I have, I do try to keep my promises.

So here's what happened at the Sept 28th BOE meeting.....
